OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed concern about the discomfort felt by Muslim and Arab individuals in the tech industry in discussing their recent experiences, possibly due to fear of retaliation and damage to their career prospects.
He called for empathy towards such communities.

“Muslim and arab (especially palestinian) colleagues in the tech community i’ve spoken with feel uncomfortable speaking about their recent experiences, often out of fear of retaliation and damaged career prospects,” Altman wrote.
“I am jewish. i believe that antisemitism is a significant and growing problem in the world, and i see a lot of people in our industry sticking up for me, which i deeply appreciate. i see much less of that for muslims.”
The rise of both antisemitism and Islamophobia in the U.S. and elsewhere following the conflict between Hamas and Israel has remained an issue across the globe since the October 7th Hamas attack.
