Governor Ron DeSantis and former Governor Nikki Haley, both potential 2024 Republican presidential candidates, stated they would pardon Donald Trump if he were convicted on any charges he faces.

They argued that pardoning Trump would be best for the country to move forward and heal divisions.

“I would pardon Trump if he is found guilty,” said Haley. (Trending: Fauci’s Ex-Boss Admits The Truth About COVID)

“A leader needs to think about what’s in the best interest of the country. What’s in the best interest of the country is not to have an 80-year-old man sitting in jail that continues to divide our country,” she continued.

“What’s in the best interest of the country would be to pardon him so that we can move on as a country and no longer talk about him,” she explained.

“We got to move on as a country,” said DeSantis in Iowa. “It’s like Ford did to Nixon.”

“Because you just, you know, the divisions are just not in the country’s interest,” he explained.

David Axelrod, a former adviser to Barack Obama, suggested that the pledge of pardons might stem from fear of Trump’s influence if he’s not the nominee.

“One unstated reason @RonDeSantis & @NikkiHaley have pledged pardons for Trump: fear of what the former president might instruct his supporters in the fall campaign to do if he’s NOT the nominee,” said David Axelrod.

Additionally, Axelrod admitted that attempting to have Trump forcibly removed from state primary ballots could be a risky strategy for Democrats.

“We’ve run this experiment, he’s only gained since he started getting indicted,” added the Democratic Strategist.
