In 2023, Universal surpassed Disney as the top-grossing movie studio, earning $4.907 billion in global ticket sales compared to Disney’s $4.827 billion.
Disney appeared to blame its lower revenue on releasing fewer movies than Universal.
This marked the first time since 2015 that Disney wasn’t the highest-grossing studio.
Disney’s best-performing movie was “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” which earned $845 million.
Other top-performing studios included Warner Bros., Sony, and Paramount, each with their own successful releases.
