Chris Christie, a Republican presidential candidate, stated that he would not vote for former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election, breaking his pledge with the Republican National Committee.
This decision is seen as an attempt to maintain political relevance, especially given Christie’s low support in polls and negative net approval rating.
Christie’s refusal to support the likely GOP presidential nominee contradicts the pledge he signed, reaffirming his previous comments opposing Trump due to the January 6 protest. (Trending: Trump Announces Heartbreaking Melania-Related Health Update)
ABC News reported that Christie joined “every remaining ‘major’ contender,” in signing pledge.
The pledge reads, “I affirm that if I do not win the 2024 Republican nomination for President of the United States, I will honor the will of the primary voters and support the Republican presidential nominee in order to save our country and beat Joe Biden.”
“I further pledge that I will not seek to run as an independent or write-in candidate nor will I seek or accept the nomination for president of any other party,” it continued.
“I’m going to go out there and tell the truth. Like the truth matters. The truth is not negotiable,” said Christie.
“I can’t help him. No way. When you have the Jan. 6 choir at a rally and you show video of it — I just don’t think that person is appropriate for the presidency,” he continued.
