A U.S. Navy veteran, known as Mr. Lee, has become a beloved regular at the Scenic 90 Cafe in Pensacola, Florida.
He visits the café every morning, sharing stories with the staff and ordering a house special for breakfast.
“He just comes in, in the morning time, and eats breakfast … He loves to sit there and tell us about his stories and his memories with his wife and kids,” server Kelli Gomez said. (Trending: Sports Icon Dies Suddenly At 56)
“It’s pretty special to me to know that this is part of [veterans’] everyday lifestyle,” she added.
“It’s humbling to know that this is where they want to be.”
“He loves watching us separate filters for the coffee machine [and] watching us grind the coffee — and one day he just started helping with this,” she said.
The café posted a photo of Lee on Facebook, which gained attention due to his helpfulness and loyalty.
Despite being widowed and approaching his 90th birthday, Lee still drives to the café daily.
“He’s got the genes. His parents lived to 96 and 98, and his grandfather lived to 101,” daughter Tracy Rutland said.
He is known for assisting the café staff and is described as a humble individual who doesn’t consider himself a hero.
The café is planning to celebrate Lee’s 90th birthday, and they are asking for birthday cards to be sent to honor him.
“The servers were already planning on decorating his chair and getting him balloons,” marketing and PR director of the café Arianne Pearce said.
