A senior Biden education adviser, Tariq Habash, resigned over the administration’s handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict, accusing the U.S. of endangering Palestinians and criticizing the Israeli government’s actions.
His resignation follows earlier instances of internal turmoil within the administration over its support for Israel, with several officials and campaign staffers urging the president to reconsider his stance.
“I cannot stay silent as this administration turns a blind eye to the atrocities committed against innocent Palestinian lives, in what leading human rights experts have called a genocidal campaign by the Israeli government,” Habash wrote. (Trending: Sports Icon Dies Suddenly At 56)
The adviser emphasized the importance of protecting students who wish to protest the war, highlighting the violence against Palestinian and Muslim Americans.
Additionally, he stressed that criticizing the Israeli government does not equate to antisemitism.
“Simply put, criticism of the Israeli government, and its violations of international humanitarian law, is not antisemitic,” Habash wrote.
“Claims that conflate criticism of Israel’s government with antisemitism only seek to silence dissent against a foreign government.”
