Media Matters for America, a liberal activist group, inadvertently disclosed its top donors, revealing contributions totaling $12.3 million from wealthy liberals.
The organization, facing legal scrutiny, received substantial funding from prominent Democratic supporters, including Deborah Simon, the Gill Foundation, and Bain Capital’s Joshua Bekenstein.
The group’s ties to influential donors and its aggressive tactics have drawn criticism from conservatives, who question its nonpartisan status.
“The tactics of Media Matters are generally acknowledged as politically aggressive in a way many see at odds with the organization’s 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax status, which stipulates nonpartisanship,” conservative writer Mark Hemingway wrote previously.
Additionally, the 2022 tax filing unveiled significant donations from businessman Stephen Silberstein and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation.
