The House Oversight Committee is considering holding Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress after he defied a subpoena to testify in the House Republican-led impeachment inquiry against President Biden.

Committee chairmen have announced plans for a resolution to hold him in contempt, prompting criticism from Democrats.

The investigation is looking into whether President Biden was involved in his son’s actions and could constitute an impeachable offense. (Trending: Sports Icon Dies Suddenly At 56)

“Our investigation has produced significant evidence suggesting President Biden knew of, participated in, and benefitted from his family cashing in on the Biden name,” Comer said.

“We planned to question Hunter Biden about this record of evidence, but he blatantly defied two lawful subpoenas, choosing to read a prepared statement outside of the Capitol instead of appearing for testimony as required.”

“Hunter Biden’s willful refusal to comply with our subpoenas constitutes contempt of Congress and warrants referral to the appropriate United States Attorney’s Office for prosecution. We will not provide him with special treatment because of his last name.”

There “is no precedent for the U.S. House of Representatives holding a private citizen in contempt of Congress who has offered to testify in public, under oath, and on a day of the Committee’s choosing, Chairman Comer repeatedly urged Hunter Biden to appear at a Committee hearing, and Hunter Biden agreed,” Jamie Raskin said.

“Instead of taking yes for an answer, Chairman Comer has now obstructed his own hapless investigation by denying Hunter Biden the opportunity to answer all the Committee’s questions in front of the American people and the world,” Raskin added.

“Chairman Comer does not want Hunter Biden to testify in public, just as he has refused to publicly release over a dozen interview transcripts, because he wants to keep up the carefully curated distortions, blatant lies, and laughable conspiracy theories that have marked this investigation. However, the facts and the evidence all show no wrongdoing and no impeachable offense by President Biden.”

Hunter Biden denies his father’s financial involvement in his business.
