U.N. Women U.K. appointed Munroe Bergdorf, a biological male, as their first “Champion,” but 17 British organizations criticized the decision due to Bergdorf’s past homophobic and racist social media posts.

The letter emphasized that Bergdorf’s objections to women discussing their female biology conflict with critical issues affecting women.

The letter said Bergdorf had “resigned as an adviser on LGBT+ to the UK Labour Party after previous homophobic and racist posts on social media were revealed. These included saying that ‘all white people’ are ‘violent racists and ‘—– you.'” (Trending: Trump Announces Heartbreaking Melania-Related Health Update)

The letter continued, “In a separate incident, Bergdorf was dropped as an ambassador to a children’s charity, Childline, because of inappropriate messages which were counter to safeguarding norms.”

“This person has objected to women making references to our female bodies,” stated the letter.

“Yet many issues affecting women, such as FGM, child marriage and forced marriage, reproductive rights, male violence against women and girls, rape as a war crime, pregnancy and maternity healthcare, and more, are inextricably linked with our female biology. How can this person be a champion of women if these issues are deemed unmentionable?” asked the organizations.

U.N. Women’s focus on gender equality and the empowerment of women was contrasted with its delayed condemnation of a massacre, raising questions about its priorities.

Bergdorf said, “I’m incredibly proud to step into my new role as a U.N. Women U.K Champion. Working with the UN has been a personal ambition and dream of mine ever since I started working in the activism space over a decade ago.”

U.N. Women describes itself as, “the United Nations entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women.”
