Europe experienced extreme weather contrasts on Wednesday, with Scandinavia facing temperatures below minus 40 degrees Celsius and disruptions in transportation and school closures due to snow and gale-force winds.
Meanwhile, western Europe saw heavy rain and strong winds causing flooding, power cuts, and property damage, with at least one death reported in the UK.
The storm, named Henk, led to over 300 flood warnings in England and Wales, with severe flood alerts in place.
Additionally, the Netherlands and parts of Germany also experienced flooding and wind-related incidents.
“The strongest gales in the U.K. were recorded on the Isle of Wight, just off the coast in southern England, where wind speeds reached 94 miles per hour (151 kilometers per hour),” the report noted.
“In the Netherlands, police near the city of Eindhoven said strong winds may have played a role in the death of a 75-year-old man who fell off his bicycle late Tuesday as high winds lashed much of the country.”
