David Plouffe, Obama’s campaign manager, suggested that liberal voters strategically supporting Nikki Haley in the primary could hinder Donald Trump’s chances of winning the presidency.
He believes that if Haley wins or narrows the primary race in New Hampshire, it could exploit the number of Republicans open to an alternative to Trump.
Plouffe argued that casting a strategic vote for Haley, even if she’s not the preferred candidate, could make sense in the context of the election. (Trending: Trump Announces Heartbreaking Melania-Related Health Update)
Plouffe said, “I think it’s probably too distasteful for a lot of people.”
“But for those who would be up for it,” he continued.
“I don’t know if it will stop Trump…but it could help extend the primary,” added the former Obama campaigner.
“So I think, for liberals, or Democrats, or independents who might not ever support Nikki Haley to be the president, to cast a strategic or tactical vote to me makes a lot of sense,” he added.
Haley’s recent surge in polls in New Hampshire and Iowa has also been noted, potentially impacting the GOP nomination race.
“If the cards fall the right way, if somehow [Haley] can finish ahead of DeSantis in Iowa, I think that makes it more likely,” said Plouffe.
“Maybe [Chris] Christie drops out,” added Plouffe.
“If you got that to a two-person race [in New Hampshire], he could very well be defeated there,” concluded Plouffe.
