Japanese officials have initiated investigations into a fatal plane crash at Tokyo’s Haneda airport.
The collision involved a Japan Airlines Airbus A350-900 and a Coast Guard Bombardier Dash-8, resulting in the deaths of five individuals.
While all passengers and most crew from the Airbus were safely evacuated, the majority of the crew on the Dash 8 perished. (Trending: Donald Trump Breaks His Silence After Major Court Win)
“This is the most catastrophic composite-airplane fire that I can think of,” safety consultant John Cox said.
“On the other hand, that fuselage protected (passengers) from a really horrific fire — it did not burn through for some period of time and let everybody get out.”
The focus of the probes lies in communication between air traffic control and the two aircraft, with concerns about professional negligence.
The incident will also serve as a significant test case for carbon-composite fuselages, as both planes involved feature this material.
Airbus is sending a team of experts to aid in the investigation, and the exact cause of the collision remains undetermined.
