Israel reportedly conducted a drone attack that killed Hamas deputy leader Saleh al-Arouri and six others in Beirut, Lebanon. Arouri was a key figure in Hamas and had been involved in recent talks between Hamas and Israel.

The attack has drawn condemnation from Iran, the Lebanese government, Houthi rebels in Yemen, and Palestinians in the West Bank.

Israeli officials had previously stated their intention to target every Hamas leader involved in the October 7 terror attack, with the exception of those in Doha, Qatar, where talks between Hamas and Israel are being mediated.

Hamas politburo member Izzat al-Sharq called the attack a “cowardly assassination.”

The attack is seen as a significant development in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
