In 2023, Universal Pictures surpassed Disney as the highest-grossing movie studio globally, earning $4.907 billion in ticket sales compared to Disney’s $4.827 billion.

Disney highlighted that it produced 17 movies compared to Universal’s 24.

Warner Bros. ranked third with $3.84 billion, powered by the hit “Barbie.” Universal’s success was attributed to a diverse film portfolio and effective strategy. (Trending: Trump Announces Heartbreaking Melania-Related Health Update)

Comscore chief box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian, said, “Universal seems to have found the perfect balance of franchise films, animation, horror and everything in between — and these assets are given every possible advantage with a pitch perfect strategy that combines great filmmaker relationships, fantastic marketing and a rock-solid distribution plan.”

Notably, Disney had four titles in the top 10 films, but none in the top three.

The year marked the first since 2014 that no Disney movie grossed over $1 billion.

Additionally, a surprise independent film, “Sound of Freedom,” made the top 10 at the American box office.
