After the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, there was hope for the Republican Party to reject Trump, but that hope faded as Republican support for Trump’s election lies increased.

“When asked last month, only 31% of self-identified Republicans told pollsters that they believe Biden’s election was legitimate. That’s down from 39% of Republicans in a poll the Post conducted in December 2021,” the report noted.

Conspiracy theories and media manipulation have influenced Republican beliefs, with many downplaying the severity of the attack. (Trending: Transgender Actor ‘Purposefully Misgendered’ By Airline Employee)

GOP elites have tried to shift attention away from the attack, advocating to focus on the future.

However, this approach lacks learning from the past and risks repeating history.

While Democrats and some independents take the attack more seriously, without Republican support, true reconciliation seems distant.
