Former President Donald Trump criticized Governor Mike DeWine for vetoing a bill that would have banned transgender surgeries on children and prevented boys from competing in girls’ sports.
Trump called on the Ohio legislature to override the veto, stating that the bill would have prevented child mutilation and men from playing in women’s sports.
DeWine’s decision faced criticism from Ohio Republicans, including Senator J.D. Vance, who argued that the governor’s emphasis on parents’ rights was not a sufficient justification for the veto. (Trending: Obama Judge Issues Shock Ruling Against Democrats)
Trump posted, “DeWine has fallen to the Radical Left. No wonder he gets loudly booed in Ohio every time I introduce him at Rallies, but I won’t be introducing him any more. I’m finished with this ‘stiff.’ What was he thinking. The bill would have stopped child mutilation, and prevented men from playing in women’s sports. Legislature will hopefully overturn. Do it FAST!!!”
The proposed legislation aimed to ban procedures such as mastectomies on girls identifying as boys and the administration of cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers to children.
Vance wrote, “This is a slogan, not a justification. There are many things the law rightfully says no one, including parents, may do to children.”
“This slogan also ignores the extraordinary pressure from interest groups and big pharma to green light poorly understood, irreversible procedures. I’m extremely disappointed in the governor’s decision and hope it is overridden,” he continued.
Trump has expressed support for a national ban on transgender procedures, labeling them as “child abuse” and “child sexual mutilation.”
