In 2023, the richest Americans donated a total of $3.5 billion to various causes, including universities, scientific research institutes, health care systems, a family foundation, and a racial justice group.
Warren Buffet topped the list with a donation of $541.5 million in Berkshire Hathaway stock to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation.
Other major donations came from individuals like James and Marilyn Simons, Phil Knight, Ross Brown, Daniel and Jennifer Gilbert, Kenneth Griffin, Timothy Springer, and Franklin Antonio.
These donations ranged from $200 million to $500 million and were directed towards initiatives such as endowments, neighborhood revitalization, medical centers, financial aid, and research into life’s origins.
