A Japan Airlines flight collided with a Japanese coast guard aircraft on the runway of Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, causing the passenger jet to erupt into flames.
The chaotic scene led to the safe evacuation of 367 passengers and 12 crew members.

The collision occurred after the JAL flight landed, resulting in sparks, gas, and smoke filling the cabin.
Swede Anton Deibe said, “The entire cabin was filled with smoke within a few minutes. We threw ourselves down on the floor. Then the emergency doors were opened and we threw ourselves at them.”
“The smoke in the cabin stung like hell. It was hell. We have no idea where we are going so we just run out into the field. It was chaos,” he continued.
An unnamed passenger reportedly told The Kyodo news agency, “I felt a boom like we had hit something and jerked upward the moment we landed.”
“I saw sparks outside the window and the cabin filled with gas and smoke,” recalled the passenger.
Footage and images showed the plane igniting immediately upon landing.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
Kaoru Ishii said, “She said the plane had caught fire, and she exited via a slide. I was really relieved that she was alright.”
“Judging from the speed of the fire, it is possible that the fire caused by the impact of the aircraft’s collision ignited the fuel tank inside the wing,” said Hiroyuki Kobayashi.
