Former President Donald Trump’s legal team plans to appeal the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision preventing him from the GOP primary ballot under the 14th Amendment, which bars insurrectionists from holding office.
They also intend to appeal a similar decision in Maine.
“I voted to impeach Donald Trump for his role in the January 6th insurrection,” Rep. Jared Golden said. (Trending: Donald Trump Breaks His Silence After Major Court Win)
“I do not believe he should be re-elected as President of the United States. However, we are a nation of laws, therefore until he is actually found guilty of the crime of insurrection, he should be allowed on the ballot.”
The rulings have sparked reactions from both Democrats and some of Trump’s GOP primary rivals.
“It makes him a martyr. You know, he’s very good at playing ‘Poor me, poor me,’ he’s always complaining,” Chris Christie stated.
“I don’t think Donald Trump needs to be president. I think I need to be president. I think that’s good for the country. But I will beat him fair and square.”
“We don’t need to have judges making these decisions, we need voters to make these decisions,” Nikki Haley said.
Despite the legal setbacks, Trump remains ahead in primary polls, potentially minimizing the impact of these decisions on his candidacy.
