Mexican officials cleared a migrant tent camp in Matamoros near the U.S. border as part of efforts to address the surge of migrants reaching the U.S. border.
A U.S. delegation, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, met with Mexico’s president to discuss the issue.
The clearance involved removing abandoned tents, but some migrants claimed they were forced to leave. (Trending: Democrat Targets U.S. Troops With New Gun Control Law)
Segismundo DoguÃn, an immigration official from the Mexican government, said, “What we are doing is removing any tents that we see are empty.”
“They ran us out,” said one Honduran migrant.
“You had to run for your life to avoid an accident,” he continued.
Negotiations between the U.S. and Mexico are ongoing to address illegal border crossings, with Mexico seeking financial assistance for migrants’ home countries and reduced sanctions on Cuba and Venezuela.
Mexico has deployed significant military and National Guard forces to enforce immigration laws.
