Presidential primaries often feature an “interesting candidate” who has little chance of winning.
In the 2020 Democratic primaries, Andrew Yang filled this role, and now, in the Republican primaries, Vivek Ramaswamy is seen as the “interesting candidate” who has become more of an embarrassment than a serious contender.
Ramaswamy’s campaign appears to be struggling, and despite canceling TV advertising, he plans a “big surprise” on caucus day.
Similarly, Chris Christie’s campaign is also seen as a vanity project, with little chance of success.
Both candidates are viewed as obstacles in the race, potentially hindering the selection of a more viable alternative to challenge the incumbent, President Joe Biden.
