During his presidency, Donald Trump took actions favoring employers over workers, including repealing a rule preventing firms with a history of wage theft from obtaining government contracts.

He sought to make it easier for companies to hide workplace injuries, avoid paying overtime, and prevent unionization.

Trump’s nomination of a fast-food CEO to head the Labor Department was seen as a boon for the restaurant industry but was ultimately derailed.

Sharon Block, director of the Center for Labor and a Just Economy at Harvard Law School, said, “If I had to pick one word, I would say ‘disaster.'”

“Four years were really disastrous for working people,” added the former Biden Administration official.

Jeff Hauser, executive director of the Revolving Door Project, said, “Trump totally understands the rhetorical appeal of populism but is absolutely opposed to it in any form other than economic nationalism.”

“Restaurant owners had a lot of issues before the Labor Department… That’s why they would get first dibs on a labor secretary,” explained the activist.

Despite his “America First” stance, his policies significantly benefited employers at the expense of workers.
