President Biden’s decision to take a vacation while the community of East Palestine, Ohio, continues to grapple with the aftermath of a train derailment has sparked criticism and feelings of neglect among residents.
Many feel abandoned by the president, despite his initial promises to support working-class communities.

The White House maintains that Biden still plans to visit, citing ongoing efforts to support the community.
“I feel like I don’t matter,” local Jessica Conard said.
“I believe that it is political for him,” local Krissy Ferguson added.
“I believe that if we were in a blue area, he would have come, and that hurts.”
“I haven’t had the occasion to go to East Palestine,” Biden said.
“There is a lot going on here and I haven’t been able to break.”
“President Trump is meeting with the citizens of East Palestine, and he will never forget them and what they are going through. Contrast that with Biden and the federal government, who have failed them from the beginning,” Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said.
“The president continues to oversee a robust recovery effort to support the people of East Palestine, and he will visit when it is most helpful for the community,” White House spokesman Jeremy M. Edwards said.
