Dutch truckers are challenging London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s green tax on drivers, arguing that fines issued under the environmental scheme were unlawful.
The lawsuit, representing Dutch trucking companies, challenges the legality of fines issued by Transport for London (TFL) and the use of excessive exchange rates for penalties.
Mayor Khan’s expanded Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) tax, aimed at reducing traffic and pollution, has faced resistance from foreign and domestic drivers, with fines rescinded and civil disobedience against surveillance cameras. (Trending: Could Taylor Swift Save Biden In 2024?)
Antonio Oliveira, owner of a Transport in Nood BV, said, “People have been really impacted. I have seen people in tears over this, others have had to sell their trucks. It is completely unjust, and we need to get an answer from an English court to find out if this is correct.”
“We are launching this claim to get the fines that have already been paid to be repaid, and the court costs. We are talking millions of pounds. We are only talking about Holland – it must be even greater across Europe. We are not the only country, of course,” he explained.
Additionally, reports suggest the deployment of a “goon squad” to protect the cameras, prompting criticism from political leaders.
Neil Garratt said, “Like Dick Turpin, Mayor Khan’s modern day masked highwayman like to hide their faces.”
“As they stand guard over his Ulez detector vans by schools and homes, these masked heavies make a menacing site in suburban London,” he continued.
