The State Department has provided financial support to a queer Muslim organization in India, aiming to offer LGBTQI individuals a platform for expression.

This grant, part of the U.S. policy to advance LGBTQI+ rights globally, supports the Queer Muslim Project, which had earlier partnered with the U.S. Consulate General Mumbai for a creative incubator program.

The recent funding’s specific purpose remains unclear.

The Queer Muslim Project, sponsored by various entities including the State Department, Meta, Netflix, and the British government, focuses on providing a platform for LGBTQIA+ Muslims and exploring the intersection of queerness and Islam.
