The New York Times has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft, alleging the unauthorized use of its content to train AI chatbots, which directly competes with the newspaper.
The suit aims to hold the companies responsible for damages and emphasized the need for fair compensation and responsible development of AI technology.
The Times said the action “seeks to hold them responsible for the billions of dollars in statutory and actual damages that they owe for the unlawful copying and use of The Times’s uniquely valuable works.”
The legal action follows failed negotiations between the parties and highlighted concerns surrounding the impact of AI on the news industry.
