House Republicans have suggested that President Joe Biden could be impeached due to his son, Hunter Biden’s refusal to comply with a congressional subpoena.
They claim the President may have engaged in a conspiracy to obstruct a proceeding of Congress.
This stems from White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s statement that President Biden was familiar with what Hunter Biden was going to say at a press event outside the U.S. Capitol. (Trending: Could Taylor Swift Save Biden In 2024?)
House Republicans indicated they are willing to have Hunter Biden testify in a public hearing but only after a deposition.
Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) wrote that their committees are, “compelled to examine as part of our impeachment inquiry whether the President engaged in a conspiracy to obstruct a proceeding of Congress.”
Comer and Jordan wrote that it is, “unlawful to ‘corruptly … endeavor[] to influence, obstruct, or impede the due and proper exercise of the power of inquiry under which any investigation or inquiry is being had by … any committee of either House or any joint committee of the Congress.’”
“Any person who ‘aids, abets, counsels, commands, induces or procures’ the commission of a crime is punishable as a principal of the crime,” wrote the chairmen.
President Biden responded, accusing House Republicans of attacking him with lies and wasting time on a baseless political stunt.
House Democrats have pushed back on the corruption-focused impeachment inquiry, calling it historically unproductive and evidence-free.
House Judiciary Committee Democrats wrote on X, “It has been a historically unproductive year in the MAGA GOP-led House.”
“Republicans have ignored the critical issues that affect Americans. Instead, they have pursued a partisan, evidence-free impeachment inquiry designed to hurt President Biden ahead of the 2024 election,” they added.
