Chinese President Xi Jinping recently utilized a speech commemorating Mao Zedong to advocate for a framework he has introduced to counter the Western capitalist model.
Xi emphasized the “central task” of building China into a stronger nation and rejuvenating the Chinese nation through modernization, linking the concept to Mao’s legacy.
His consolidation of power, elimination of term limits, and efforts to narrow the wealth gap have raised concerns about unchecked ambitions and potential income redistribution. (Trending: Could Taylor Swift Save Biden In 2024?)
Additionally, the Chinese propaganda machine has intensified efforts to draw parallels between Mao and Xi, with state media praising Xi as an extension of Mao.
Xi also reiterated the party’s stance on Taiwan, emphasizing the need for reunification and promoting peaceful cross-Strait relations.
“The motherland must and is bound to be reunified,” Xi said.
China must “deepen cross-strait integration and development in all areas, and promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.”
