A federal judge declined to pause litigation challenging Alabama’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors, as similar cases move toward the U.S. Supreme Court.
The U.S. Department of Justice requested a stay, but the judge refused, saying the case will move forward for now.
Families with transgender children have asked the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to review a decision allowing the Alabama law to take effect.
“This exceptional legal landscape is quickly evolving,” explained The Justice Department in their request.
The Alabama case is scheduled to go to trial in April, and at least 22 states have enacted laws banning or restricting gender-affirming care for minors.
