Former President Donald Trump is tied with President Joe Biden at 43 percent support overall in a potential 2024 presidential matchup, according to the Economist/YouGov survey.
However, Trump leads among independents by six points, with 38 percent support compared to Biden’s 32 percent.
More independents also believe Trump is likely to win the 2024 election. (Trending: Trump Releases Must-See Christmas Message)
The survey was conducted after a controversial ruling disqualifying Trump from appearing on Colorado’s ballot, with Trump’s lawyer asserting that such attempts to target Trump will only bolster his support among his base and independents.
“The court found by clear and convincing evidence that President Trump engaged in insurrection as those terms are used in Section Three,” of the Fourteenth Amendment, wrote the Colorado Supreme Court Justices.
Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba, said, “It’s absolutely ridiculous, and it’s so desperate. It’s just so desperate.”
“What they don’t realize is the more they do these desperate attempts to take Trump down, it emboldens the base and emboldens and flips the independent voters to vote for Trump because they’re afraid,” she continued.
“I mean, this one really sparked outrage,” added the attorney.
