Dolly Parton, in a recent interview, explained why she never felt compelled to have children, stating that her career and music were her primary focus.
She believes her career wouldn’t have flourished as much if she had children and expressed relief about not having any.
Dolly Parton said, “When you’re a young couple, you think you’re going to have kids, but it just wasn’t one of those burning things for me.”
“I had my career and my music and I was traveling,” she continued.
“If I’d had kids, I’d have stayed home with them, I’m sure, and worried myself to death about them,” explained the singer.
“With everything that’s going on, I’d hate to be bringing a child into this world right now,” said Parton.
“I’m almost glad I never had children,” said Parton in an earlier interview.
“I worry myself to death about my little nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews,” she added.
“We just got to be good friends because he’s a Kentucky boy, I’m from Tennessee,” said Parton about Billy Ray Cyrus.
“And he said… ‘We’re having a girl, and you’ve got to be her godmother!’ And I said, ‘Well, I’d be honored.’ So actually, Miley and I took over from there, and we’ve just stayed very, very close through the years,” said Parton.
Despite not having her own children, she is the godmother of singer Miley Cyrus, a relationship that has remained close over the years.
