Minnesota Democratic Rep. Dean Phillips, a 2024 Democratic primary candidate, expressed concerns about the political system’s resistance to change and the likelihood of Donald Trump defeating President Biden.
He highlighted the lack of public recognition for his candidacy and emphasized the private acknowledgment of Trump’s potential victory.
Phillips criticized the political-industrial complex’s focus on maintaining the status quo and urged for a more competitive political environment. (Trending: Democrat Found Guilty In Corruption Trial)
“I’m a threat to a system many people are trying to protect,” said Rep. Dean Phillips.
“The conversations are all being had privately, not publicly,” he continued.
“Why are more people not taking your candidacy seriously? I talk to people who are well-informed about politics, and I say I had Dean Philips on my show the other day, and they say, “Who’s Dean Philips?” asked Dan Abrams.
“Sure. Two reasons,” answered Phillips.
“The country doesn’t know me yet, which is going to take some time. The bigger issue is I’m a threat to a system many people are trying to protect, and that is a problem. It is a duopoly. It is a political-industrial complex that is always focused on a coronation, not really focused on a competition, particularly when you have an incumbent president,” he continued.
“But this is an unusual time, as you just pointed out. Donald Trump is going to beat Joe Biden. I’m going to say it again., Donald Trump is going to beat Joe Biden. Most people know that,” said Phillips.
“The conversations are all being had privately, not publicly. That’s the difference, it is going to take a little time,” continued the lawmaker.
“Alarmist? I think people who are not being alarmist about Donald Trump are delusional!” said Phillips.
“That’s the whole reason I’m here today, that’s why I’m running for president. It’s not what I anticipated. I tried for a year to encourage the president to pass the torch, I spent the better part of six months encouraging candidates who were better known than I am right now to enter the stage,” he continued.
He argued that the majority of people he encountered expressed dissatisfaction with both Biden and Trump, suggesting a desire for change.
“It’s going to take some time for that delusion to pass, but I have not seen one shred of evidence that Joe Biden is positioned to beat Donald Trump. Every single poll relative to his approval rating, intuition back home, conversation everywhere. This sounds ridiculous,” said Phillips.
“I ask every person I encounter in my campaign, “Are you ready for change?” explained the presidential candidate.
“I found three people, we keep count, three people have said they are happy with either Joe Biden or Donald Trump. That’s why 75% of the country right now is saying they don’t want this and the political-industrial complex is trying to protect the status quo and not encourage competition for Democrats,” concluded Phillips.
