Florida officials are investigating a man who was caught stealing a 50-pound tarpon from a Bass Pro Shops store in Fort Meyers using a fishing net from the store’s shelf.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the suspect, and they shared a video of the theft on Facebook, asking for the public’s help.
The incident was captured on Snapchat, and authorities are working with various organizations to find the person involved in the theft, including the Animal Cruelty Task Force and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. “LSCO is attempting to locate retail theft suspect. But not just your ‘normal retail theft,” Lee County Sheriff’s deputies wrote.
“We guess you could say THIS one will o-fish-ially catch your eye.”
“The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is aware of an incident at The Bass Pro Shop in Fort Myers involving a tarpon. We are currently working with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to investigate further,” a spokesperson for the FWC stated.
“I will provide updates when they become available.”
