Late night host Stephen Colbert defended the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to remove Donald Trump from the state’s election ballot, comparing Trump to the confederacy and citing the 14th Amendment.
Despite legal scholars predicting the ruling will be thrown out, Colbert portrayed it as a victory.
He joked about the ruling and mocked Fox News’ reaction, transforming into a legal scholar to argue that Trump is disqualified under the 14th Amendment. (Trending: Judge Announces Historic Ruling In Jeffrey Epstein Case)
Colbert emphasized the decision as a constitutional matter and drew parallels to keeping the fox out of the hen house.
“You can feel it in the air, folks,” Colbert began.
“There are just five days until Christmas,” he continued.
Adding, “But Santa came early last night when the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that Donald Trump is disqualified from holding office.”
Tagging on, “shows you can make good decisions when you’re high.”
“Can you imagine how mad Donald Trump must have been when he heard the news? Oh, to be a ketchup stain on his wall,” said Colbert.
“Notably, the people over at Fox News have their catheters in a twist over this,” celebrated the late night host.
“Anti-democratic. That’s like saying… That’s like saying it’s anti-hen to keep the fox out of the hen house. Let the chickens decide whether he finds them delicious,” explained Colbert.
“And let’s be clear here, the Colorado Supreme Court did not kick Trump off the ballot,” he continued.
Declaring, “The United States Constitution kicked Trump off the ballot.”
“Yes, the 14th Amendment says if you try to destroy our democracy, you can’t come back and try again,” he explained.
“It’s the same reason I’m not letting my appendix back into my abdomen, no matter how well it holds in Iowa,” continued the late night host.
“How’s my appendix doing in Iowa?” asked Colbert.
