Utah’s new law requiring parental consent for children to use social media after 10:30 pm is facing a legal challenge from social media giants represented by the NetChoice trade group.

The lawsuit is reportedly supported by Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta (parent company of Facebook and Instagram), China’s TikTok and Snapchat. All three companies are reportedly putting their resources into the effort.

The law is part of a broader trend in states like New York to regulate children’s social media use. (Trending: Prominent LGBTQ Activist Arrested Over Disturbing Charges)

The lawsuit argues that the law restricts access to public content and compromises data security.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox is prepared to defend the law in court, while NetChoice emphasizes the importance of digital freedom without excessive government control.

Meta’s federal lawsuit challenges the constitutionality of the Utah legislation.

Chris Marchese, Director of the NetChoice Litigation Center, said, “We are fighting to ensure that all Utahns can embrace digital tools without the forceful clutch of government control.”
