The chair of the Republican National Committee, Ronna McDaniel, has been implicated in efforts to pressure Michigan election officials to challenge the 2020 election results, which has pulled her into legal controversy surrounding Donald Trump.

A leaked recording suggests that Trump personally pressured Wayne County Board of Canvassers, Monica Palmer and William Hartmann not to certify the election results, and McDaniel was reportedly involved in the call.

Additionally, McDaniel’s offer of legal assistance to the officials has raised concerns about potential legal implications. (Trending: Assault Weapons Ban Set To Take Effect, Here’s What To Know)

According to Newsweek, Trump says, “We’ve got to fight for our country.”

“We can’t let these people take out country away from us,” added the former president.

McDaniel reportedly said, “If you can go home tonight, do not sign it…We will get you attorneys.”

Palmer and Hartmann did not sign the official votes and attempted to rescind their original votes in favor of certification.

Anthony Michael Kreis, a law professor and political scientist at Georgia State University College of Law, said McDaniel “could be in some trouble” and referenced Michigan’s bribery laws.
