Maine’s secretary of state has delayed a decision on whether former President Donald Trump should appear on the presidential primary ballot due to a Colorado Supreme Court ruling that he is ineligible there.

The Colorado court’s decision was based on the 14th Amendment, citing Trump’s involvement in the January 6, 2021, attack.

This ruling may lead to a U.S. Supreme Court review on whether states can ban Trump from the ballot. (Trending: Prominent LGBTQ Activist Arrested Over Disturbing Charges)

“We’re very hopeful that [Bellows], after a thorough review of all the evidence we presented, is going to reach the conclusion that former President Trump doesn’t meet the qualifications for the office of president and therefore has to be disqualified from the Maine ballot,” attorney Benjamin Gaines said.

Other states, including Maine, have similar challenges to Trump’s eligibility, with pending legal cases in at least 14 other states.
