Harvard University President Claudine Gay formed a task force after George Floyd’s death with the aim of reducing the visual presence of white men in campus spaces.

The task force recommended changing the decor in spaces dominated by portraits of white men, specifically targeting Annenberg Hall.

“Harvard’s Claudine Gay led a task force to reduce the visual presence of ‘white men’ in campus spaces—simply for being white men. They committed no crimes; they were not deemed ‘racist.’ Their ancestry and anatomy were enough to justify their banishment,” Chris Rufo stated. The focus was on the race and sex of the individuals depicted, rather than their accomplishments.

Gay has faced scrutiny following her testimony before Congress and allegations of plagiarism, but Harvard’s governing body has expressed support for her leadership.

“As members of the Harvard Corporation, we today reaffirm our support for President Gay’s continued leadership of Harvard University,” eleven of the board’s members stated.

“Our extensive deliberations affirm our confidence that President Gay is the right leader to help our community heal and to address the very serious societal issues we are facing.”
