Rep. Eric Swalwell’s involvement in Hunter Biden’s news conference at the Capitol has raised questions about his role in Biden defying a House subpoena.

Legal expert Jonathan Turley highlighted the potential contempt of Congress, emphasizing Swalwell’s office’s reservation of space for the event.

While Swalwell’s actions may not constitute a crime, they raise concerns under House rules. (Trending: Prominent LGBTQ Activist Arrested Over Disturbing Charges)

Turley also pointed out the potential repercussions for Swalwell’s involvement.

“It certainly raises serious questions under the House rules. I’ve never seen anything quite like that,” he said.

“There’s plenty of members that associated with unpopular causes,” continued Turley.

Adding, “What’s different here is that Swalwell reserved congressional space… through his office, presumably using his staff, to defy the subpoena, a valid subpoena of the House.”

“[T]hey have a lot of options from censure to looking at whether he should be allowed to continue on committees,” said Turley.

“But the key here is really that we need to know to what extent did he not only facilitate, but encourage what could be a federal crime. And in my view, it was federal criminal contempt what Hunter did on that day,” he explained.

“This isn’t a particularly difficult lift legally to bring a contempt action against him,” said Rep. Smith.

“But what’s really breathtaking here is that the Democrats who have defended him did this precise approach, that is they how they had witnesses come in for depositions before they appeared in public hearings. And that includes Eric Swalwell, who participated in that,” said the lawmaker.

The situation has drawn attention to the differing treatment of witnesses in public and closed-door hearings.

Despite claims of a constitutional crisis, Turley noted that the contempt of Congress statute could be applied if necessary.

Additionally, Swalwell defended his actions, attributing them to the alleged weaponization of Hunter Biden’s past addiction by Trump supporters.
