Former President Donald Trump’s late first wife claimed he owned a book of Adolf Hitler’s speeches and kept it by his bedside.
Recent statements made by Trump at a rally in New Hampshire have drawn comparisons to Hitler’s rhetoric.
Trump’s controversial remarks about migrants “poisoning” the country echo Hitler’s language. (Trending: Supreme Court Delivers Historic Ruling on AR-15s)
Marie Brenner, reporting for Vanity Fair wrote, ‘[W]hen he visits Donald in his office, Ivana told a friend, he clicks his heels and says, ‘Heil Hitler,’ possibly as a family joke.”
She later quoted Trump as saying, “If I had these speeches, and I am not saying that I do, I would never read them.”
According to The Daily Mail, Trump told his supporters in New Hampshire that migrants from “all over the world” are “poisoning the blood of our country”, which the outlet reported was a phrase used by Hitler.
“All great cultures of the past perished only because the originally creative race died out from blood poisoning,” wrote Hitler in his 1925 manifesto.
Later in Trump’s speech in NH, he said, “The crime is going to tremendous, the terrorism is going to be, terrorism is going to be… and we built a tremendous piece of the wall and then we’re going to build more and the election was rigged.”
“We didn’t do it but I figured they’d just throw it up – it was all built, it was all ready to be just hoisted up,” he continued.
Adding, “The exact wall that the border patrol who are incredible, Brandon Judd and all of the people at border patrol – that’s exactly what they designed.”
Trump’s claims about migrants and the construction of the border wall have been scrutinized for accuracy.
Additionally, former Chief of Staff John Kelly alleged that Trump made positive remarks about Hitler during a 2018 Europe trip, a claim that was denied by Trump’s spokesperson.
The Guardian reported that in Michael Bender’s upcoming book Frankly, We Did Win This Election Donald, Bender claims that Kelly was “stunned” when then-President Trump reportedly said, “Hitler did a lot of good things.”
Bender claimed that Kelly pushed back and told Trump he “can’t” say anything positive about Hitler, but that Trump was unaffected by this guidance.
Trump spokesperson Liz Harrington said, “This is totally false.”
“President Trump never said this,” she emphasized.
Adding, “It is made up fake news, probably by a general who was incompetent and was fired.”
