Leroy G. Walker Sr., a city council member in Auburn, Maine, is advocating for limits on firearms that can “rapidly fire” following the tragic death of his son in the Lewiston attacks.

Walker has criticized Republicans for opposing additional gun controls and emphasized the need to address the ability of certain firearms to rapidly fire multiple rounds.

The Maine Gun Safety Coalition is leveraging the attacks to push for expanded background checks, despite the attacker legally purchasing the firearms at retail and passing a background check. (Trending: Ousted Democrat Who Filmed Explicit Tape Blames Homophobia)

“BDN noted the Maine Gun Safety Coalition, a gun control group, is using the Lewiston attacks as a platform from which to push for expanding background checks to cover private gun sales,” the report noted.

“They are doing this even though the attacker did not get his guns from a private source.”

“Rather, he purchased them legally at retail, according to WBUR, which means he passed a background check,” the report added.
