A school board member in Virginia, Karl Frisch, took his oath of office with his hand on a stack of LGBTQ-themed books instead of a Bible.
The books contained graphic depictions of gay sex. Frisch, a Democrat campaign consultant, has raised funds based on LGBTQ issues and is known for his activism.
The incident has sparked controversy, with concerns raised about the content of the books and Frisch’s background. (Trending: Joe Biden Impeachment Formalized As Republicans Unite)
“He was sworn in on a stack of the five LGBTQ-themed books most frequently banned by other school systems,” Frisch’s campaign website reads.
In the fall of 2021, nearly every Fairfax school board member besides Frisch left the dais after a mother exposed several passages from the literature.
“What if I told you I touched another guy’s d—? What if I told you I sucked it? I was ten years old, but it’s true. I sucked Doug Goble’s d—, the real estate guy, and he sucked mine too,” one passage from “Lawn Boy” read.
“There are children in the audience,” said a board member attempting to cut her off.
The mother shot back, “These books are in stock and available in the libraries.”
“The religious nuts come out of the woodwork,” Frisch said of the event.
“Fairfax has a history of being an epicenter for right-wing religious fanaticism.”
Notably, not a single member of the Fairfax County School Board is a Republican.
