Former President Donald Trump is leading in the Iowa Poll ahead of the Iowa Caucuses, with a significant lead over his nearest challenger, Ron DeSantis.

However, DeSantis downplayed the poll results, citing the difficulty of predicting caucus outcomes.

“They do these polls, they’re never accurate with the caucus, because it’s all about turning out the folks and then everyone you turn out they bring a neighbor, they bring a family member and then you get a great crescendo of support on caucus night,” DeSantis said. “Caucus polling is probably the hardest type of election-related polling there is,” J. Ann Selzer said.

“There is no polling partnership that spends more time or more money to take our best shot.”

“We’ve seen things happen in the final days that could not have been predicted,” Selzer said.

“That’s sort of the design and the charm of caucuses.”

Despite this, historically, candidates leading the Iowa Poll about a month ahead of the caucuses tend to win.

Trump’s current lead is larger than previous winners, indicating a strong position.

The Iowa Poll has seen comeback wins, such as Rick Santorum’s in 2012, suggesting that a late surge is possible.

While Trump holds a strong position, there is still room for DeSantis or Nikki Haley to potentially make a late surge.
