Nikki Haley, in her 2024 campaign, has criticized Donald Trump’s presidency by using the word “chaos,” aligning with Joe Biden’s portrayal of Trump as unpredictable and chaotic during the 2020 election.
She aims to consolidate the non-Trump Republican vote while avoiding alienating Trump supporters.
Haley’s strategy is to signal that she can deliver desired policy outcomes without the tumult of the Trump presidency. (Trending: Democrat Excludes White People From Holiday Party In Controversial Email)
“I’ve strongly believed that Donald Trump was the right president at the right time. But rightly or wrongly, chaos follows him,” Haley said.
In 2020, Biden said Trump was “an incumbent president who makes things worse, not better. An incumbent president who sows chaos rather than providing order.”
“The way Biden won in 2020 was not going too harsh at Donald Trump, so there would be a sliver of Republicans and center-right independents that would vote for Biden because they didn’t like Trump,” Republican strategist Susan Del Percio said.
“That was part of it. The other part was to increase turnout.”
Del Percio said, “She’s using some very, frankly, polite language. And instead of trying to really take him down, she’s obviously looking at her future at this point.”
“That’s how you look to beat Donald Trump. You have to go at him full force,” she added.
However, some strategists believe she needs to be more aggressive in her approach to effectively challenge Trump’s lead in the primary contest.
