President Joe Biden previously recommended criminal prosecution for those defying congressional subpoenas, but now his son, Hunter Biden, has ignored a House subpoena related to an alleged influence-peddling scheme.
House Republicans have initiated contempt of Congress proceedings against Hunter, prompting comparisons to the case of Steve Bannon, who was sentenced to jail for defying a subpoena.

“What’s your message to people who defy congressional subpoenas on the Jan. 6 committee?” asked a reporter in October.
“I hope that the committee goes after them and holds them accountable criminally,” answered Biden.
“Should they be prosecuted by the Justice Department?” followed up the reporter.

“I do, yes,” said Biden.
Rep. Comer said in a statement, “Hunter Biden today defied lawful subpoenas and we will now initiate contempt of Congress proceedings.”
“We will not provide special treatment because his last name is Biden,” he continued.
“President Biden and his family must be held accountable for their corruption and obstruction,” wrote Rep. Comer in cooperation with Rep. Jordan.
“And we will provide that to the American people,” declared the chairmen.
