The European Union has initiated an investigation into Elon Musk’s online platform, X, to determine whether it has violated new social media regulations aimed at reducing harmful online content.
The inquiry will focus on X’s handling of illegal content, measures to combat information manipulation, transparency with researchers, and the design of its user interface.
The Digital Services Act (DSA) threatens significant penalties for non-compliance, and X has stated its commitment to cooperating with the regulatory process. (Trending: Devastating News For Hunter Biden After Defying Subpoena)
The DSA aims to ensure user safety online and prevent the spread of harmful content, with a particular focus on illegal and harmful material.
“Today we open formal infringement proceedings against @X” under the Digital Services Act, European Commissioner Thierry Breton stated.
“The Commission will now investigate X’s systems and policies related to certain suspected infringements,” spokesman Johannes Bahrke said.
“It does not prejudge the outcome of the investigation.”
“X remains committed to complying with the Digital Services Act, and is cooperating with the regulatory process,” the company stated.
“It is important that this process remains free of political influence and follows the law. X is focused on creating a safe and inclusive environment for all users on our platform, while protecting freedom of expression, and we will continue to work tirelessly towards this goal.”
The EU has previously criticized X as the worst platform for fake news and has urged Musk to take stronger action to address hate speech and misinformation.
