Karl Frisch, a Democrat and incoming chairman of the Fairfax County School Board, took his oath of office with his hand on a stack of LGBTQ-themed books, including those with graphic content.
The incident sparked controversy, as the books contain explicit depictions of gay sex and are frequently banned in other school systems.
“He was sworn in on a stack of the five LGBTQ-themed books most frequently banned by other school systems,” Frisch’s campaign stated. (Trending: Democrat Excludes White People From Holiday Party In Controversial Email)
Frisch’s actions have raised questions about his motivations and priorities, as he is not a parent and has been criticized for using his position to advocate for LGBT issues and staff interests.
In 2021, nearly every board members besides Frisch fled the dais when a mother read from the books.
“What if I told you I touched another guy’s d—? What if I told you I sucked it? I was ten years old, but it’s true. I sucked Doug Goble’s d—, the real estate guy, and he sucked mine too,” a passage from “Lawn Boy” read.
“These books are in stock and available in the libraries,” the mother pressed when a board member tried to cut her off due to “children in the audience.”
Additionally, the incident has brought attention to the political dynamics and controversies within the Fairfax County School Board.
“The religious nuts come out of the woodwork,” Frisch said. “Fairfax has a history of being an epicenter for right-wing religious fanaticism.” Every member of the Fairfax County School Board is a Democrat.
A previous school board chair, Rachna Sizemore Heizer, took the oath of office on a copy of radical anti-American historian Howard Zinn’s book “A People’s History of the United States.”
