A Home Depot executive testified to Congress about increasing threats from shoplifting, including violence and even fatalities among employees.

The company and retailers nationwide have experienced significant financial losses due to theft, with a rise in aggressive and dangerous behavior from perpetrators.

The spike in organized retail crime has led to security measures such as locking up products and hiring off-duty police. (Trending: Democrat Excludes White People From Holiday Party In Controversial Email)

The executive attributed the crime spike to factors like the drug crisis and the ease of reselling stolen goods.

“Retailers are not exaggerating the problem,” head of loss prevention Scott Glenn said.

“These individuals are becoming increasingly aggressive, they are dangerous, and often care little about any consequence other than getting out of the store with as much as possible,” Glenn added.

“I want to be very clear that we’re not talking about petty shoplifting. We’re talking about theft for greed, not theft for need.”

“There’s the myth that [organized retail crime] rings happen only in big cities. Unfortunately criminals don’t discriminate.”

Legislation has been proposed to combat organized retail crime at the federal level.
