Biden’s Proposed Return To Trump Immigration Policy Met With Press Questioning

via USA TODAY

The White House is facing questions about potential plans to reinstate some of the Trump-era immigration policies.

President Biden is reportedly considering lowering the number of allowable asylum claims and restoring the pandemic-era Title 42 border expulsion policy, which may upset Democrats and align him more closely with his predecessor.

“Our reporting indicates the White House is open to an authority that would allow suspended asylum processing when there’s a spike in border crossings,” a reporter noted. (Trending: Joe Biden Impeachment Formalized As Republicans Unite)

Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized the need for bipartisan compromise and referred back to Biden’s initial immigration reform bill.

“I can’t negotiate from here,” Jean-Pierre said.

“They’re having conversations right now. I don’t want to get ahead of that. I want to let folks have those conversations.”

The administration has been criticized for its approach and reluctance to openly discuss immigration, with concerns raised about potential alignment with Trump-backed proposals.
