The U.S. House of Representatives voted to authorize an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, focusing on allegations of improper benefits from his son’s foreign business dealings.
The effort, largely seen as unlikely to remove Biden from office, is viewed by Republicans as a way to highlight alleged corruption during the 2024 campaign.
The probe has been dismissed by the White House as politically motivated. (Trending: Dr. Fauci Says the Unthinkable About Going To Church)
“House Republicans are not joining me. Instead of doing anything to help make Americans’ lives better, they are focused on attacking me with lies,” Joe Biden said.
“There is no evidence to support the allegations that my father was financially involved in my business, because it did not happen,” Hunter Biden said.
Hunter Biden, the president’s son, has refused to testify behind closed doors, leading to potential contempt of Congress.
The investigation also involves allegations against Hunter Biden, who faces federal charges unrelated to the impeachment inquiry.
“The House has now spoken, and I think pretty loudly, pretty clearly with every single Republican voting in favor of moving into this official impeachment inquiry phase of our constitutional duty to do oversight,” said Rep. Jim Jordan.
“The whole point of an inquiry is not to pre-judge,” Representative Nick LaLota stated.
“The average New Yorker is mighty suspicious of folks from the president’s family making tens of millions of dollars in professions in which they had no experience – seems a little fuzzy,” LaLota added.
“In the depths of my addiction, I was extremely irresponsible with my finances. But to suggest that is grounds for an impeachment inquiry is beyond the absurd. It’s shameless,” he said.
